The CTRL-1 Fingertip Pulse Oximeter is our latest 2021 edition of our popular SpO2 monitor and one of the UK's best-selling Oximeters. Tweaked and improved, it provides quality at excellent value making it the perfect choice for monitoring your health easily, and from home.
Reliability of your readings is key to peace of mind and monitoring your blood oxygen levels correctly. So our Oximeter is thoroughly tested to ensure accuracy every time.
We have also made the CTRL-1 pulse oximeter easier to read. With a clear screen, which rotates with you, it saves time making observing and monitoring your health an easy and simple task. This was a feature called for by home visitors and health professionals and we were only too glad to meet their needs.
Taking your measurements is just a single button press away and takes just moments to accomplish, allowing you to move on quickly to other things. Simply insert your finger into the unit and the infrared sensor does the rest.
The intelligent power saving mode means you'll get far more readings out of your Oximeter, so you need not be afraid to use it frequently. The battery life is now so good that the Oximeter could be powered on for a full 30 hours (the longest we have ever seen).
Our Oximeter is trusted by pilots and athletes, and is used by medical professionals. With this in mind, we have included a lanyard, making our small, lightweight design even easier to grab and use during the day.
An experienced product research and development company, CTRL products' CTRL-1 is an Oximeter you can rely upon with a long service life.
We provide reliable testing and monitoring equipment which is convenient, easy to use, and at a sensible price without skimping on quality.
Please Note: As of the beginning of June, we are back in stock. If the Oximeter is out of stock, the "add to basket" option will disappear. Please do bear in mind that we also sell to distributors and healthcare units, and so stock levels can change quickly.

Designed to support your health, in any environment
An oximeter affords excellent peace of mind and can ensure you're performing at your peak. Plus, recognise the onset of possible health risks, often detected by a drop in your "pulse ox"
How it works, and how it helps
Here's what it does
Typically clipped over a finger (though a toe or ear lobe works, too), a pulse oximeter transmits light from sensors on one side of the device through the body part to sensors on the other side.
In about 15 seconds, it calculates how much oxygen is being transported through the person’s bloodstream and displays the results as a percentage (abbreviated SpO₂).
Doctors consider a SpO₂ reading of 94 percent and higher to be normal. Low levels of oxygen in the blood (hypoxemia) can lead to low levels of oxygen in the tissue and organs (hypoxia), which can lead to death.
Get an accurate reading
Correct usage is key to a trustworthy reading, however, which can fluctuate based on a number of factors — what you are doing physically (sitting versus running), proper device placement and the altitude you live at.
Our ART-1 has excellent accuracy of +-2% detecting SpO2 from 70%-99%
Artificial nails and nail polish, especially gel-based, can produce inaccurate measurements of SpO₂, as they block the light transmission. Cold hands or poor circulation can also interfere with the light and produce false numbers, because pulse oximeters need a steady flow of blood beneath the sensor.
Who buys these?
Pulse oximeters are usually purchased for home use by people who want or need to monitor their oxygen supply, including patients with chronic lung conditions such as COPD, performance athletes, pilots, or people living at high altitude.
They are also useful to ensure you are getting sufficient oxygen to your brain to maintain good performance.
*Update* Please see below for guidance re. COVID-19 an Oximeters
Edit (May 2020): Can this help detect COVID-19 symtoms?
Shortly after the pandemic began, these easy-to-use devices started being seen as a means to detect serious complications from Covid-19, the disease the virus causes.
“The reason there is such great interest pulse oximeters now is that covid-19 has a fairly significant effect on the body’s ability to oxygenate, sometimes discordant with how the patient feels,”- Benjamin Seides, director of interventional pulmonology at Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital, Chicago USA
The USA has seen an uptick in sales of Oximeters which are seen as a way to detect an onset of COVID-19 complications.
While you may not feel short of breath, a drop in your blood oxygen level can be an early indication of the disease.
If levels drop significantly, this can prompt you to take action, especially if you are in a higher-risk group.
People discharged from hospital may also be told to use an Oximeter to check their levels to ensure they are not getting worse again.
Relieve pressure on healthcare
People with chronic health issues may want to get a pulse oximeter at this time because it can be a helpful tool for regularly checking in with a doctor via telemedicine or online.
This can reduce time and resources on the health service, allowing you to take greater control of your health.
Plus, while you may feel unwell, monitoring your oxygen levels may show you that there is nothing to be concerned about. An oximeter will help you with your general health and wellness.
Can't an app do the same thing?
No. A recent University of Oxford study found no evidence that any smartphone technology is accurate for the measurement of blood oxygen saturation.
In fact the study states that “oxygen saturation levels obtained from such technologies should not be trusted.”
"Great quality & easy to use. Surprised at the results so I have started to take better care of myself!"
Mary Reighard - York
Bought this to detect ‘silent hypoxia’ caused by COVID19 in case one of my household catches it. Really impressed with how easy it was to set up and use.

Useful device to measure correct SP02. Reading is given quickly and display is nice and clear

Why use an Oximeter?
Your blood oxygen level indicates how much oxygen your red blood cells are carrying.
High blood oxygenation plays an essential role in ensuring that your muscles, brain and other organs receive the energy they need to function properly.
That’s why it’s so important to understand how to measure your current oxygen level—and determine whether it falls within an acceptable range.
